Being a Christian is not easy
In fact it can be a real struggle at times
God is upfront and honest about it in John 16:33
“In this world you will have trouble”
If God stopped there, trouble would engulf us
Trouble would overtake us without the rest of the verse
“But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
This may seem like a simple statement
We all know that God is big
We’ve heard that God created the earth and that He’s watching over us
But wait a minute. He’s watching over me?
Who am I?
I am a perpetual sinner
But even though I fall back into sin constantly, I am forgiven without fail
In short, I am a weak, clumsy creature that God for some reason loves and desires fellowship wit
And God…
Well He’s perfection, He’s strength, He’s beauty
He’s powerful yet merciful; He’s infinite yet compassionate;
He’s over all yet He loves each one of us as a parent loves a child
Except like a million times more than that
And then there’s the fact that He’s overcome the world
When the Bible says overcome, God hasn’t only overcome the world by a step or two
He’s miles and miles above and beyond
He’s an infinite distance above anything we can imagine
He’s the light of the world and the ultimate salvation
You may say “I know that God is salvation. I learned that when I was little.”
But through salvation He shows Himself to be greater still
He’s peace, He’s fulfillment, He’s satisfaction
He’s more than we could ever dream
His very presents brings a warmth that surpasses description
Unless we take this to heart
We’ll be missing out on the amazing gifts He desires us to have
God loves to give us gifts
He’s longing to give us gifts
Sometimes we just need to ask
These gifts may not always be exactly what we expect
But if we can remember how perfect He is and how deep His love for us goes
Then we can be sure that through whatever comes He will work it out for our good
And that’s all we really need to know
The more we think about, study and just marvel at who He is
The more satisfied we become in Him
We start to see things as Christ sees them
We desire to see Him more in our lives
We have a hunger for Him
We discover the satisfaction He gives from learning more about Him
Then He removes us from the equation which only adds to our satisfaction
Our main concern becomes doing the things He wants us to do
The desire to follow His direction and obey His commands becomes the driving forces in our lives
We may not have a life of daisies and roses
But He gives us patience to wait until the flowers bloom
It’s in Him that we’re complete
It’s in Him that we’re satisfied
Everything we do has to be free of selfish desires
May the world around us see through the outer shell of our humanity
And see that we are truly living in Him
